CJ – Metopic

The day I found out that my beautiful son had Metopic Craniosynotosis and needed major cranio surgery, was the scariest day of my life. How could this be possible? My mom was with me because my husband was out of town. I had to make the dreaded call to my husband, who was on a job site at the time. He seemed really calm, but scared out of his mind. Later that night he called me crying, asking me all kinds of questions, some I could answer, but most I couldn’t. He flew home the next day. Once he was home, he told me he didn’t want to talk about this. I tried talking to my mom, but all she was doing was laying in bed crying. None of my friends understood what I was going through, nor should they. I felt completly alone in this. I would look at my little boy and think just how perfect he looked, and couldn’t understand why this had to happen to him. I just wanted to hug him and kiss him and cry all at the same time. I didn’t know what to do. So, I started doing research online, and I came across Cranio Care Bears. Almost instantly a woman named Shelby contacted me, and let me know that I was not alone in this. Her son had gone through the surgery and she was going to be there for me through all of this. I wasn’t sure what to think. How could a woman I have never met want to be there for me anytime I needed someone to ask question to, assure me that everything was going to be ok, and just genuinely be there for anything I needed? She was though. The first time I met her, I felt as though I had met a new friend, she made me feel so much better about what I was about to go through with my son. I talked to her almost daily, asking any question that came to mind. If I was scared, she was there to help me through, and let me know that it was ok to be feeling this way. The day of surgery came, I was sick. I had my parents, my husband, and his parents there, and of course Shelby was there too. She stayed with us the entire time. She helped all of us keep our minds off of what was going on. She brought me the most amazing care package. She is truly an angel. This care package had everything in there you don’t think to pack when your baby is going in for major surgery.

When it was time to finally go in and see my beautiful baby, she was there with me too. Telling me how perfect he looked. Its hard to see your baby laying there hooked up to all sorts of machines, but when you have a friend there telling you that he looks perfect, and reminding you that you are finally on the other side, its like having a huge weight lifted off of your shoulders. I honestly don’t know how I would have gotten through all of this without her, she is an amazing woman. I think about her daily and all that she has done for me and my family, there is no way for me to thank her enough, and let her know how much she means to me!
