Adley – Metopic

AdleyAdley entered the world on March 28th, 2012. My third pregnancy and child with no complications during pregnancy or labor and delivery with all three children! Her two big brothers were smitten over her the first time they saw, and held Adley. Our family was complete with a little princess and two big brothers to look after her…

My husband Will and father-in-law John noticed a small ridge down Adley’s forehead around age two-three months. I pushed their comments aside, as I only saw a perfect little angel. Adley’s cranio journey started at her four month well-check. As we were walking out of her well-check appointment while her pediatrician asked if we had any other questions or concerns before we left. Of course my husband mentioned the ridge, and I, like any new overprotective mother shunned the idea. To my surprise our pediatrician calmly handed us a piece of paper with two neurosurgeons names and numbers to call which forever changed Adley’s future.

After two appointments with two different surgeon’s Adley was diagnosed with Metopic Craniosynostosis. We had no idea what Craniosynostosis was or even how to spell it. After the initial shock settling in finding out your baby has to have corrective surgery (CVR & ORA) we sat down and made a decision for our daughter’s future. For us surgery was the only option. My husband Will and I decided on a surgeon we were most comfortable with and researched deeply. It was final, Adley’s surgery date was set for September 28th! The two month wait was hard. All of our “what if’s” and “why our baby” made for long sleepless nights. Researching Metopic Cranio led me to find the Cranio Care Bears Facebook and website. We received the most heartfelt care package! What you women do is truly amazing, angels on Earth! We eased our thoughts reading success story after success story on the Cranio Care Bear website.

With lots of love and prayers Adley’s surgery went smoothly and perfectly. She was almost unrecognizable to us after surgery from the swelling but the swelling really only last a couple days. She was back to normal in 2-3 weeks. Adley has hit milestone after milestone, sometimes ahead of time for her age! She’s our third child and only one with Craniosynostosis. She never stops amazing us! She has a very thin scar to always remind us just how precious she really is…
