My sons name is Cameron and he was diagnosed with metopic craniosynostosis earlier this year. I had fought with my doctor about the ridge on his forehead. For 2 year my doctor told me it was normal until I demanded he send us to a specialist. We saw the specialist who then sent us up to Gillette Children’s Hospital in St. Paul Minnesota. Cameron’s speech is mostly unrecognizable. He is 2 1/2 now and his speech is at around 16 months. He has a 5 word vocabulary and behavioral problems. He is currently seeing a occupational therapist because he also has a problem with certain textures. He will only eat high taste foods. His choices are few, he eats lots of yogurt, hot dogs, chips, crackers, bananas and spaghetti occasionally. I can get him to drink ensure every day so thank God for that. He also sees a speech therapist. At our first appt at Gillette Children’s hospital Dr. Wood, the cranial specialist also recommended that we take Cameron to see a behavioral physician to have him tested for autism. We have an appt for Cameron to see Dr. Noble at Blacks Children’s Hospital in Des Moines Iowa in December. June 21 of this year Cameron had surgery for Metopic Craniosynosis. We had a few minor set backs after surgery. Cameron has to be sedated for 48 hours after surgery instead of 24 hours because they tried to take him off sedation and he tried ripping out his drain tube and his central line in his neck. He could open his left eye on the 3rd day after surgery and we were able to head home on the 5th day. His sutures are now healed completely and where his central line was is looking better after getting MRSA staph infection. We are schedule to have a check up with Dr. Wood and the neurosurgeon this week but With finances the way they are we can make it for a while. I have been a stay at home mom for the last year and my husband was laid off a month before my sons surgery. We are extremely blessed to have such amazing doctors and nurses. Cameroons vocabulary has increased dramatically since surgery! He is now enjoying having conversations with his 3 sisters who are 8, 7 & 6 months. We thank God every day for our little boy who has been through hell and back in his lifetime. We are excited to see what other milestones he will hit next!
