Riley – Coronal

On April 30th 2011, my boyfriend and I found out that we were pregnant with our second child. During the whole pregnancy I had dealt with a few complications. Towards the end my OBGYN told me that our baby was frank breach and that I would have to have a c-section. On January 20th 2012, my water broke (a week before the planned c-section) so at 2:18 am, our handsome son Riley Endmon was brought into this world. Well during delivery there was difficulty getting him here. His head was jammed up under my left rib cage. It took them 15 minutes to get him unstuck. When I first held Riley his head was so odd shaped but all the nurses and doctors kept telling us it would work itself out over time. So we just went with that. But at his 1 month check up with his pediatrician, the doctor told us he was not happy with his head shape but we could give it time and wait. Well Riley’s dad & I were not happy with that at all, so we called Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO. First we saw a plastic surgeon who ordered a CAT scan and an appointment to see a neurosurgeon. On April 16th 2012, we went back up for the CAT scan and that was the day my world almost crumbled. The CAT scan showed that his front right plate of his skull had fused completely together and was diagnosed having Right Coronal Craniosynostosis. The neurosurgeon told us he needed the Endoscopic repair surgery. I started balling I had never heard of this and I had never imagined that one of my children would ever have any medical issues. I started doing some research on all of it and it scared me more. I couldn’t go 2 hours without having a break down. So then my mother-in-law found Cranio Care Bears and many other support sites and all these families that were so supportive made it so much easier. Riley had his surgery May 1st 2012. The surgery took about 3 hours. The longest 3 hours of my entire life! He did PERFECT!! He is now 3 weeks post op and doing great. I don’t know what I would have done if I had never found Children’s Mercy Hospital or all the support sites. Thank you to all who have made this so much easier. And thank you for welcoming my Little Cranio Prince to the OTHER SIDE! =)
